CHEMELION

The close up of a Chemelion was taken in a pet shop with flash.
The camera was loaded with FP4 rated at 200 ISO and fitted with a
macro lens. The close focus setting on a zoom would do the job
with a creature of this size.

At this distance, about 18 inches, the depth of field, even at
F16, is tiny. The background is thus totally out of focus and
doesn`t distract from the subject.

The flash was off camera, and the distance that the flash had to
be from the subject for correct exposure calculated. This can be
done by dividing the aperture to be used into the guide number of
the gun for that film speed. The resulting figure is a distance.
Be careful to always work in metres OR feet - not a combination
of the two. It happens !!!!

The angle of the flash has to be by experience. If the animal is
behind glass, then it should be at 45 degrees to avoid
reflections, but you should then open up 1 stop to allow for
light loss.
